"Liquidator" - A Mixed Bag

Image
"Liquidator" is a time travel adventure that sets up a very interesting world but has a plot that feels a little thin.   Aubrey Street, a time traveling liquidator responsible for eliminating anachronisms in the timeline, is sent back in time to 1891 where a servant girl has gotten her hands on a copy of a feminist book from the future. When she can’t bring herself to kill the girl, she is swept up into a vast web of intrigue, secrets, and dark magic. πŸ“– “Liquidator Volume 1” πŸ“ Writer: Peter Milligan πŸ‘¨πŸ»‍🎨 Artist: Piotr Kowalski πŸ–️ Colorist: Brad Simpson πŸ”‘ Letterer: Simon Bowland 🏒 Publisher: Mad Cave Studios   πŸ—“️ Published: May 19, 2026 Thank you for Mad Cave Studios for providing a free advance copy of this eComic for review consideration via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.   A mixed bag is the best way I can describe Liquidator. The setup and world building of this comic is excellent. This time travel adventure almost feels more like an espionage thri...

"Supergirl's Family Vacation" - Just a Delight

Image
The Supermobile is back and it has fists! Need I say more?  πŸ“– “Supergirl’s Family Vacation” πŸ“ Writer: Brandon T. Snider πŸ‘¨πŸ»‍🎨 Artist: Sarah Leuver Age Range: 8-12 years 🏒 Publisher: DC Comics πŸ—“️ Published: May 5, 2026 Pre-teen Kara Zor-El, Supergirl, has the perfect family vacation planned for her family to the floating city of Argo. Kara’s flans are derailed when the Superman family is invited to a celebration on a seemingly peaceful planet. However, this apparently perfect world holds a dark secret that may just be the key to Kara finding her place in her found family.  What a delightful read!
There’s a lot of fun to be had with this breezy read. The characterization is spot-on. I especially enjoyed the writing of Clark and Lois. Clark is appropriately filled with hope and thinks the best fo everyone. Lois' reporter’s instincts cause her to start spotting cracks in the gleaming facade of the planet.  The tone of this graphic novel is decidedly and delightf...

“Let’s Make Cocktails!” - Comic Book Mixology

Image
The comic book medium is, by its very nature, flexible. Sequential storytelling need not be limited to superhero stories or dramatic tales. Indeed, as Scott McCloud famously pointed out in Understanding Comics , even airplane safety pamphlets are, at their core, comics.  It is this flexibility that Let's Make Cocktails! Takes advantage of. Sarah Becan uses the medium of comics to share the history, techniques, and recipes behind the world’s most iconic cocktails.  Written and Illustrated by Sarah Becan Published by Ten Speed Graphic  Published on April 7, 2026 Length: 192 Pages Publisher’s Blurb:  A fun and approachable comic book introduction to the wonderful world of cocktails, with tips for stocking your home bar and 60 recipes for classic drinks, from the co-author and illustrator of  Let's Make Ramen!  and  Let's Make Dumplings! "Godzilla Here There Be Aliens" - The Gang's All Here!

“It’s them aliens again!”

Agent Bob Jones, responsible for a government task force investigating the existence of kaiju, is pulled into a web of intrigue and conspiracy when the nefarious shape-shifting Xiliens invade with their army of space kaiju. The mythical earthbound creatures led by Godzilla may be humanity’s last hope for survival. Author: Frank Tieri Artist: Angel Hernandez Colors: Heather Breckel Letters: Steve Wands Editor: Jake Williams Designed by: Darran Robinson Published by: IDW Publishing Published on: Apr 21, 2026 Length: 120 Pages This comic has a little of everything - aliens, government conspiracies, and more Godzilla lore than you can shake a stick at. Tieri and Hernandez seamlessly blend classic 1950’s science fiction themes and the Godzilla franchise. The plot reminded me a lot of movies like Invasion of the Body Snatchers and other classic Cold War alien invasion b-movies. The Godzilla gang is all here too. I’ve long been a fan of the campier installments in...
